* A note is coming home today in your child’s Friday folder regarding a typing program we will be doing during our lab time at school.  Students can also use the user name and password listed on this note to access their account from home at www.typing.com.  In the top right corner there will be a student log in. Students have their usernames and passwords in their binders.
*Lost/missing items: If your child is missing a coat or other item, please encourage them to check the lost-and-found. Also, please label lunch boxes, back packs, coats, etc. with your child’s name.

We will begin our formal spelling unit after reading screening is finished, around the end of September. Stay tuned for more updates!

Punctuation at the end
Fall, Leaves, Fall
By Emily Bronte

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night’s decay
Ushers in a drearier day.

How can I help my child succeed in Fifth Grade?
*Multiplication skills are vital for your child’s success in 5th grade math. Practice times tables regularly with your child to help him or her start the year off right! There are flashcards available at the Dollar Tree and Dollar General, and www.multiplication.com is a great website for extra practice.
*ST math is also available for practice at home. Students should all be familiar with this site and have a username and password.    web.stmath.com
*Continue to encourage your child to read for 30 minutes per day. Daily practice is important for success in reading.
